Contour was founded with the belief that a small, technically strong company that offered rapid turn-around and superb customer service could succeed.

Founded in 1990 in a small red building in Hammond, Wisconsin with one press and a lot of energy, Contour was ready for business. Twenty-four hour days were not uncommon. Making the sale, engineering the mold, molding the part and handling all the administrative work with only three people proved to be a daunting task. Customer visits were held to a minimum due to cramped quarters, limited equipment and no air conditioning. But spirits remained high.

Business was slow at first; prospects were reluctant to accept a new small company without a track record. But in time, with much perseverance and success in delivering complex parts in seemingly impossible time, business began to accelerate. Growth reached 40% per year and several large manufacturers were added to the customer base, including 3M, Telex, PSC and ITW.

In 1992, with an SBA loan and just 12 customers, Contour took another leap of faith by building a 13,000 sq. ft. plant in Baldwin, Wisconsin's new industrial park. With this plant came many innovations, a fully integrated MRP system, a closed loop Motan resin drying system, and robotic pickers.

Even with such a modern new building, space began getting scarce. Contour had exceeded its 5-year projection. Outside storage had to be used. So in 1995, a huge expansion of 33,000 sq. ft. was undertaken. By this time all the ingredients for success were there and the business blossomed. In 1996, Contour achieved its first one million-dollar account. And the focus on 1-4 weeks turned out to be of great interest to many customers. In fact, Contour's performance was so good, that in 1995 we were awarded Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year.

Today, Contour is an outstanding example of entrepreneurial success. In 1999, Barry Grant, one of the founders, bought his partner's share of the business and formed a new exceptionally strong Contour team. It is with great confidence that this team looks to the future for another 10 years of growth and outstanding service to its customers.
